Dr Ayesha Scott studies how New Zealanders think, feel and act around money. In this episode, the finance lecturer and co-creator of Sorted’s Money Personality Quiz breaks down the five personalities defined by her research.

With current cost-of-living pressures, we ask how personality factors in when money is tight, why financial education alone doesn’t necessarily lead to better decisions, and how it helps to understand your personality when stress hits. How does social media and one-click spending create what Dr Ayesha Scott terms a “perfect storm” for impulsive spenders? Why do even some high earners with no kids still feel like they’re going backwards?

Plus, the downside of being so-called “good with money”, and how a shared money language can help defuse money conflicts for couples and whānau.
