The CN Tower is easy to recognise and surprisingly easy to take for granted. Ed Conroy gives you a reason to look up again, starting with the everyday problem behind a structure that still looks like the future.

Picture Toronto in 1976: eight-track tapes, wood-paneled cars and this enormous tower rising above everything. Ed's childhood memory of its revolving restaurant adds a detail that feels almost impossible now. The skyline may look familiar, but the experience inside belonged to a very different world.

A zoo, Ontario Place, the Eaton Centre, the Blue Jays: why did so much arrive within a few years? Ed traces that burst of ambition to an earlier Canadian moment. It's an invitation to remember what a city can build when the future feels like something worth getting excited about.

Topics: CN Tower, Toronto in 1976, Canadian nostalgia, Toronto landmarks, Expo 67
