Ryan O'Donnell had never done it before. He had toys of the Space Shuttle as a kid but had no idea where it was going. Going around the moon is different. The moon will be as close to the crew as a basketball held at arm's length. The photos coming back will be seen in textbooks.

An Air Force general with Wright-Patterson ties went missing six days after Trump announced a full UFO file release. Steven Spielberg has a film called Disclosure Day arriving this summer. The White House responded to questions about the domains with an alien head emoji.

What would it mean if the alien stories a society tells are actually a map of how that society is doing? In the 1950s, during the early Cold War, aliens were coming to save humanity from itself. As trust in government collapsed through Watergate and the exposure of programs like MKUltra, the aliens started abducting people instead. Nathan Radke says you can read the cultural temperature through whichever alien story is currently dominant.

Ask someone to draw a UFO and they draw a flying saucer. Not because they have seen one. Because movies showed them one first. Nathan Radke says this is the central problem: we confuse the direction of influence, assuming Hollywood reflects reality when the truth is reality reflects Hollywood.
