Canada-U.S. trade promises sound encouraging, but what would count as a win here? Jimmy Zoubris and farmer Lesley Kelly help you weigh the gap between a political announcement and the terms Canadians would have to live with.

What Would We Actually Be Agreeing To?

Both governments could celebrate the same agreement. That still leaves you asking what changed for farmers, and who absorbed the cost. Dairy quotas bring another question: how do you change a system people have invested millions in?

After the Votes, Who Changes Course?

A different Congress could bring more pressure on Donald Trump. Would that change his approach to Canada? Jimmy’s expectations and Lesley’s conversations with American farmers give you two ways to consider what an election result might actually deliver.

Topics: Canada-U.S. trade, dairy quotas, supply management, U.S. midterm elections, farming costs
