Scary movies need a rating system you can actually feel. Find your own comfort level on a scale that starts with a hug and climbs through math class, a CRA audit notice and your mother calling your full name. Middle name included.

Now put The Polar Express on it. The Christmas story earns affection, but those animated faces get a very different reception. Where would you place it alongside Halloween and The Shining?

Even familiar horror titles produce wildly different results. One person's easy viewing lands at the very top of someone else's scale, while a film about the financial crisis brings another split. Bring your own ratings: agreeing on the movie title is about as far as the consensus goes.
