AI hiking advice puts a confident answer against the demands of an actual trail. Kris Abel uses a rescue story to explain why real-world directions deserve scrutiny before becoming a plan. What happens when an apparently useful route leads somewhere the hiker cannot get out of?

A Star Wars collectible brings another collision between a convincing imitation and everyday reality. Kris has Hasbro’s thermal detonator in hand, complete with sound effects. Its history includes an unexpected phone call, and hearing it helps explain his warning about travelling with the prop.

Then robot hands take on sleight of hand. Cards, coins and a miniature car become demonstrations of dexterity, but technical skill leaves another question open: does being fooled by a machine offer the same appeal as watching a human magician?
