Gas prices heading down are welcome news, but how much could your next fill-up change? Dan McTeague of Canadians for Affordable Energy gives you regional forecasts for gasoline and diesel, with a distinction worth knowing before you judge the sign outside your station.

Diesel drivers may recognise this frustration: the predicted decrease makes headlines, yet the pump seems reluctant to follow. What accounts for that gap? Dan identifies a difference in how diesel sells and puts numbers around the relief he expects.

Then comes the question behind any cheaper tank: how long could it last? Markets are responding to political expectations, while physical supplies face different pressures. You can welcome the forecast and still ask what would need to happen for those savings to hold.

Topics: gas prices, diesel forecasts, regional differences, pump-price delays, oil supply
