His custom-built kayak, "Valentine," equipped with a cabin, solar panels, and a pedal system, aided his journey. While later weather improved, saltwater exposure caused persistent blisters and sores, worsened by a broken water maker on day 55. He also encountered large Sargassum seaweed patches near the Caribbean.
