Butter belongs on toast. Keeping some because it's too precious to eat takes the relationship somewhere else. Bob Addison brings a buttery obsession that offers both familiar comfort-food cravings and a chance to question where enthusiasm becomes collecting.

A three-pack of raisin bread settles Bob's feelings about margarine. A cracker passing the butter dish creates another opportunity, although his technique might not impress everyone sharing the kitchen. Hear the snack confession that makes getting a knife seem unnecessarily formal.

Specialty shops, unexpected flavours and customers waiting for their purchase give this everyday staple the fancy-cheese treatment. Bob's back on board with butter, but not necessarily every variation. How elaborate does the butter counter have to get before a simple pleasure starts looking a little ridiculous?

Topics: butter, butter versus margarine, specialty shops, comfort food, grocery prices
