Then someone at school uses a different app you've never heard of to create a deepfake video of your kid and shares it with 300 people before third period. Your parental controls didn't even register the threat because the tool didn't exist when you researched "keeping kids safe online" last month.

Every piece of your kid's online activity is being commodified and can be used against them. The platforms selling you safety features are the same ones embedding AI creation tools in every social feed. Apple's adding on-device protections, but that only helps if you understand what you're protecting against. You're leading without a map because the territory changes faster than anyone can document it.

What your parents did with teaching you about car safety doesn't translate here. The investment isn't the phone, it's the digital footprint your kid starts building the moment they go online, and that footprint becomes permanent data someone else owns. Set your own agenda, build your own family culture around this, because waiting for platforms to fix themselves means you're already years behind the harm.
