This is Sex, Lies and Spray Tands with Me, Cheryl Burke and iHeartRadio podcast. We're so happy to have this guest with us on the show again. She is a DWTS legend and someone that I'm so honored to call a friend. She made headlines this week announcing her new podcast and dropping ten episodes in ten days to celebrate her ten years of being cancer free. Please welcome back to the podcast the One and Only my friend, Samantha Harris. Samantha Harris, you're in the headlines, so let's start with you and your amazing new podcast. Can you please just talk about it. I'm so happy for you. Congrats, Thank you so much.
This has been a long time coming, and a lot of people have been asking me to do a podcast for quite a while, but I know that in the health and wellness space it is such a saturated market. But the timing was just so perfect because I just celebrated ten years cancer free. Connect so thank you. So what better way than to drop ten episodes over ten days to.
Celebrate oh my gosh years. That was must have been a lot. Like I'm sure you probably started what recording when.
Well, I already have two over two hundred episodes in the can because I have been since twenty twenty one when I so I wrote my book Your Healthiest Healthy back in twenty eighteen, and then out of that grew my private membership community that I launched in January of twenty one. So every week, which I still do as part of my Private Your Healthiest Healthy membership community, I have a live coaching session that I lead, then I bring in a live guest expert, and then I have a workout. So I had all this amazing content with these incredible, esteemed in demand experts and I thought, Okay, those are really they need to see more light, So I thought share those What's great about those people who are in the community, they get to be their live they get to ask their questions in real time, and those interviews don't air on the podcast for I mean some of them probably won't even air for a year or two because I have so many already. And then the solo sessions are just on a variety of topics from how you know to get the toxins out of your makeup and skincare, or to reduce toxic relationships or weight loss or intermittent fasting, just all these wonderful topics to bigger wellness.
You're like a walking wellness encyclopedia.
Seriously, you know what, I've become a complete research geek. I love it, I said, you know, after my you know, Dancing with the Stars, hosting and entertainment tonight, all my years in entertainment, news and interviewing, you know, everyone from Tom Cruise, you know everybody, Sandra Billock, you Jackman, you know, you name it. I've interviewed them. And yet when I interview these medical and wellness experts who are gurus in their area, that's when I fan girl out, Like, yeah, I can interview Tom Cruise, no problem, Yeah, I'm fine, I'm like cool, calm, collected. But I interview you know, Dan Butner of the Blue Zones or the glucoas God is just in inchel space. These are people who are like I would have not even known a few years back.
I'm like what, Yeah, I'm like, oh, oh.
My god, can I talk to you?
What can I ask? I just toltally, Oh my goodness.
Yeah.
I love that. And by the way, it is so needed. So as you know, I just turned forty, right.
Yeah, I loved yours by the way it looked funny.
Thanks, thanks, and this is all that was all admitted. But anyway, I've heard that it's time to get a mammogram. I'm so nervous, you know me. I hate doctors and I don't want to go.
So I feel you. I had my first mammogram just before I turned forty because that big birthday was coming and I thought I should set a baseline because I'm so super healthy and fit right now. I got a mammogram. The results came back clear. Now this was back when three D mammograms and some of the more awesome technology that's available now weren't even available, so it was just basic two D mammogram. The results came back clear, but eleven days later I found the lump that then, over the course of months, two doctors told me was nothing until I finally pushed for answers and had better diagnostic testing and all and actual pathology.
But you felt you felt a lot? Did I did?
I found the lump?
It was I just like, did you always check your breast?
Nothing wasn't like, first of all, yes, first of the month, girls check the girls, you know it's kind of that, But no, I really good about checking those look. I think having breastfed both my daughters allowed me to become very comfortable touching my breast in a very sexual, kind of more clinical way. When uh, but what it was is it wasn't a formal check in of the movies. It was I had just finished a workout, and you know how compressive those sports bras are. It's like when you're finally able to take off the sports where all you're like, oh lot, the girls breathe mo, yeah, yeah, a little bit circulation going, and literally that's all I was doing, and I was sort of moving them around, and all of a sudden, I thought, way as I could, that lum hasn't been there before. And then I, no, big deal. I just had a clear mammogram eleven days later and I'm super fit and healthy.
No big deal, O crazy eleven days later, Samantha.
You know when they finally the radio just finally knew exactly where the cancer was. They said, you know, Samantha, it's really like looking at a snowball in a snowstorm. So it's very hard. A piece of rice on white paper, right, it's so hard to find it. Some breast cancers are very easy to spot on a mammogram or an MRI. This was not And I've heard this story from many breast cancer survivors who I've encountered. Obviously, I've encountered thousands of them over the years, now ten years out, so you know, that's when I thought, Okay, we can be in so much better control of our well being than we realize. We can take even better control. So can I do to mitigate risk when five to ten percent is all that is hereditary as a link to breast cancer.
There's a lot of things I don't have a lot of knowledge about, but this is important. I'm forty years old, like it's been literally because it's been manifesting in my mind. Everything I listen to is about getting a mammogram lately. So maybe offline you can give me a doctor, a direct, you can recommend.
Yeah I don't have one, Okay, I will absolutely And I want to just say on that last note of that, for anyone who's saying, you know what, I don't want to bother with a mammogram, or I hear conflicting information about mammograms don't actually help save lives. They catch a lot of breast cancer. In my case, do they also miss it? Yes, but they also catch a lot and save a lot of lives. So listen to your doctor, get your annual screenings, don't delay. Make sure you know this is the month I go every year to get my mammogram. Same thing with that, a really uncomfortable papsmere. Cervical cancer is even scarier than I'm right now.
My aunts died of cervical cancer.
I'm so sorry. It's so look we are.
You don't have to even be sexually active to have cervical cancer.
No, and thank goodness for you know, the younger generation that we have the HPV vaccine.
Yespes often does it cancer? Does that prevent Yeah, it's.
A vacut I mean it's amazing, like the fact that, like you know, of course you're so worried about your kids and STDs, but at least cervical cancer from HPV is not one of them. I mean, they could still get cervical cancer from other means, God forbidden, right, they won't get HPV, which is the human papaloma virus that oftentimes can lead to cervical cancer.
Yeah, but this is so freaking I want the list start listening to your podcast. Asap, even though it's so scary, but thank you for all this information and for more. You guys need to freaking listen to Samantha's podcast, and this is important information. This is so important.
It's fun, you know what. Also like the don't be like, oh, I can't listen because it's going to be scary to know. It's about empowering you guys to be able and it's a girlfriend and girlfriend.
I wish there was a podcast like this when I was you know, literally, I went to Planned Parenthood probably won too many times when I was younger, and I needed that though. Thank god for the Planned parenthood back in the day. But now people are so open and willing to talk about it like yourself. So thank you for your work, seriously, and don't forget to give me that doctor's number.
You got it.
Okay, let's move on to another headline. Ion Zering. Did you hear about ion Zering's New Year's Eve attack that happened to him and his daughter? Do we talk about this?
Yes? I think I did headlines with you when that information came out and I heard his daughter was in the back seat these motorcyclists he had like maybe clipped one or one clipped him when they were driving by, and so then they all got agro and went after this and he up and directed them away from his car to keep his daughter safe, which really really impressive.
Yeah, two of them got arrested today. It took this long, though slow, justice was served, right, I guess right.
And they were online, from what I remember, illegal motors, Like they weren't real motorcycles. They were like a mop petty thing that shouldn't have been driving with traffic.
So they were.
Illegal in every way. And then they attacked someone.
Yeah, I'm trying to see, like what did they get charged with? Well, I guess they got charged with responsible for an assault and vandalism of a motorist on Hollywood Boulevard. The release stated Hernandez had been booked for felony vandalism, while Goosar is facing a charge of assault with a deadly weapon. Interesting. Okay, well, better late than ever, I say. Simone Biles calls out fans for being disrespectful to my husband amid Jonathan Owen's criticism. Now, I first of all, let me just read the story. For those that don't have Dancing with the Stars on Google search, Simone Biles has had enough of people commenting on her marriage to NFL player Jonathan Owens. On May nineteenth, Simone hit back at comments about her husband on her Instagram stories after he supported her at the twenty twenty four Core Hydration Gymnastics Classic in Connecticut the day before. I'm going to quickly address this, she said. The joke was never a joke. You all are blatantly being disrespectful to my relationship and my husband. So I'm going to go ahead and say this one time, respectfully. F off Samon wrote, And if you keep commenting or tweeting at me, I'm just going to block you, simple as that. And no, I don't need to touch grass or whatever. TF you' all suggest. Everyone else that's supports us, we love you so much. I listened to her interview with Alex Cooper on Call Her Daddy, another very popular podcasts, and she goes in detail about all of this hate towards her husband. I guess her husband was on another podcast where he basically said that you know, I'm I'm the catch likes somehow there was a question and he said that I'm the catch, and I always say that the men are the catch. She said, adding that he was fighting against his natural feeling of being afraid to commit before he and Simone officially started dating. And I guess her fans attacked him for being like, wait, you're the catch. No, she's the catch, and like it's just so stupid, right, all of this is so dumb, Like, obviously Simone chose the right man for her, and everyone needs to literally mind their own business. This is crazy, But good on her for basically standing her ground because I love the block button too, you know, I just press it a lot lately.
Well, maybe what he meant was I'm the catch, meaning I catch a football.
No, no, I love you, But I don't think that's what he meant. I think, you know. Also, and so what by the way, he's he is a catch and so is she. They're both Why can't both people be catches?
You know? I mean think about that. It's like you get that, it's the same. That's a power couple. That's why you have two people who would be a catch. Yeah, there should be.
You know.
Look, I guess it's her fans really just trying to rally around and support her, which I guess if you twist it to that side and flip it on its head. That's really wonderful that they support her, they love her, and they want to protect her. That like, she's so awesome that you and I will say if I mean my husband and probably say something like that as the joke, but as the joke where he like, for instance, his we've been together. Actually we're coming up on our twentieth wedding anniversary.
Gosh, concreds, thank you. What are you going to do.
Well to celebrate my fiftieth birthday that was back in November, my ten year cancer versary and an upcoming twentieth more romantic than taking our thirteen and sixteen year old with us. But we're going to Europe this summer for two weeks.
Oh well, that's amazing.
I think I'm excited.
I really have some alone time.
I'm sure, right, Well, they're busy on their tiktoks, I'm sure.
Yeah, exactly right. They're not even looking straight ahead, So you're fine. What would you do if they came after your husband for some thing that he may have said that is really just tongue in cheek.
I would absolutely, of course I would stand up for him, yeah, all the way. And you know, I think he has a catchphrase that he loves anytime he gets a new audience, which is, yeah, the day we met, it was the luckiest day of her life.
He says it very tout's funny.
Knows he's going for the joke. Yeah, can't they see that? May I mean, I don't know if he was using it as that or not, but you know, but I will say, Okay, so now flip side in defense of the fans, you know you do. This is so traditional, but like you want the man to be like, you're right, I'm the lucky one. That that's my lady, Like I'm the lucky one, you know, So it's a little weird. Well I'm the lucky one actually both ways. The woman should also be like I'm.
So thank you. Yes, and she does say that, she's like he is a catch, Like in my world, he is a catch, and obviously he thinks that she is. To listen, they are married. They married each other, Like, for real, you don't get into a marriage thinking that this person's not a catch. Put it that way.
Yeah, if you are, then it's all for completely wrong reasons and it's not gonna last.
Let's talk about a woman who We've talked about every week since I've started this podcast, Ariano Mattox. So this is the second part to this vander Pump Rules reunion. She faces off with Lala after failing to respect her boundaries with Sandoval post affair. How much do you know about VPR?
Not a lot, But I've gone to some different pump restaurants in West Hollywood that are quite tasty and cool, very scene. I felt very very when I went, though, I will say I was very hap. I'm like, mo, yes, cool girls.
Okay, so let me read you the story. Ariono Mattos is drawing a line in the sand when it comes to her boundaries with ex Tom Sandoval. On the second part of the VPR reunion that aired Tuesday, host Andy asked Ariana how she felt about Sena say remaining in touch with Sandoval after his headline making affair with Rachel. Basically, Ariana told Sena, your feelings are totally valid. Obviously I'm not necessarily the person to go to with those feelings. However, Sheina vowed that she would always be team Arianna, saying I just wanted her to know You're still my girl, Understand that I'm still here. Even though I'm in Tahoe on this trip, I'm still here, and I think a lot of times my tone and the way I speak, I tend to misspeak and say the wrong thing to the wrong audience. Laala admitted that she struggled with why Ariana needed to set firm boundaries within the friend group, despite her doing the same with her ex, Randall Emmett, with whom she shares daughter Ocean Kent Emmett. There's one giant difference. I have a child involved that I entered a custody battle with my ex. Did not call Schwartz over because he likes to hang out with Tom Schwartz. She said of her ex, there was a motive there, and I was fighting for the well being of my child. And unless you have a child and you've been in my situation, you will never understand it. This is almost done, and then there's a lot of back and forth here. So when Katie, now another character Katie and Malooney noted that Ariana should be allowed to have boundaries, Lala responded, this is where I get confused, because there's a boundary that's happening, but she's sleeping down the hall from him. And has a new boyfriend, meaning Ariana is still or was I don't think she is anymore, but was in the same house that they bought with her ex, the guy that cheated on her, and she does have a new boyfriend now. But Ariana then brought up Katie's divorce from Tom Schwartz, asking was there an issue when Katie was dating after her divorce. Ariana continued, she had very solid boundaries of what she was comfortable with and what she wasn't and I have mine, I supported yours. All you have to do is say I respect yours. That's it. And they continue to argue, I guess, and finally Ariana told Lala, I've always known your situation is different, and I've always effing supported that, And then it finally concluded with Ariana saying you're louder than everyone, so you're right, and Laala replied, I have not raised my voice, not once. All right, but okay, So if you were in the situation of Ariana where you're let's say your ex full blown cheated on you, it's made public, it's public knowledge, and then your group of friends your girlfriends, then continue a relationship with them, and then you said to your girlfriend. Look, as long as you have a relationship with with my ex, basically you're done. Is that? I mean whatever boundary anyone says is their boundary. I mean, like you can't really question their boundary.
You can't question that boundary because you have to do. Look, I think we are people please your society as women anyway, and so we don't want to we were tiptoe around, we walk on exheles. We're free to upset anyone turn things internally. How are you? How is your health? How is your mental health? Your physical health from this relationship. And I'm not saying you have to be a complete be about it. You can say you know what, I will see you in this situation, but other than that, I can't or you know, it isn't healthy for me. And so if you're going to continue that relationship with that my ex, I can't. Unfortunately, I'm not saying I don't like you anymore, I can't have you, but I can't. I just handle that, and you need to respect that for me.
For sure, especially because it's a boundary that they said. It's like with feelings, like you can't tell someone to stop feeling a certain way, like it's their feelings, right, Like I think it's it's basic stuff. It may sound so basic, but it's not like it's just certain things that I'm learning too. It's like, regardless of the person's boundary or feelings, it's there. It's their right. Like as individual people.
We talk a lot about them. My husband I talk about that with our kids a lot about even though it might not be what really happened, it is their perception. So if you're perceiving it as that something Cheryl, you say to me and I'm like ooh, and you're like, but that's not what I mentioned, Like, Okay, that's great, But that's how I'm perceiving this right, So yeah, perception is their reality.
No, you're right, period. Jenna Johnson, let's talk about dream Partners. Season thirty three got the official pickup? Can you believe it? Season thirty three? Believe Okay, So here's a few headlines made into one that we're going to discuss. Is people three women's dream partners, one being Jenna Johnson, who would love to see Jason and Kylie kelse On dancing with the Stars. Now, I don't think let's play a little game here, what's the reality of a situation. Do you think they would do it eya or nay?
I mean I doubt it. I think he's doing just fine. However, ego comes into play, and dancing is a great ego booster or not. Well, well, okay, that's actually a good point for people of his ilk who are incredibly talented in what they're doing, who are also at the top of their game. Right, We're not talking about an actor, actress, performer who hasn't been heard of for many years, which obviously we know is oftentimes cast as well, and it's a great opportunity for them to reinvent themselves, come back and make that come back. And obviously the show can also tear you down. But here's a guy who's had an incredibly successful football ball career. He exited at the top of his game. So for him to come on the show, obviously we know as well. You've been partners with, you know plenty of football players. You know they do well overall on the show, and you know, I could see him doing it. I don't know if he will. He doesn't need the money, that's for sure.
So basically Jenna is saying this would be great for like a double dates type thing as well. Like for I think they just want Taylor to come to the freaking ballroom. Though she's been in the ballroom remember when she performed.
Yeah, I mean we know Dina, you know, the executi producer and casting director. I know you've talked about Diana a lot on the show. Dina and the rest of the team and the ABC for that matter, Disney would be over the moon to have Taylor in the front row. I mean that would skyrocket the ratings for that reason alone.
I mean, Jenna's pretty smart. She would have all the swifties voting for them.
Yeah.
Absolutely, Maybe she could get her chance at that second mirror ball.
I think it's a really fun idea. Maybe not with this well, but I think it's a really fun idea to have a you know, married couple on the show as pro dancers like Jenna and Val, to have another couple that they're party with. I think it is a very cute doublev.
They did that with Nick Lache and Vanessa Lache, with Peta and Max.
Were they the same time?
Mm hmm. What I think they should do with all these bachelor bachelorettes that end up, you know, getting engaged they need to have both people like I would have loved to see Charity and her fiance I think now husband maybe I don't know, but I would have loved to see them both compete. I think that would be really fun. Right, Let's move on to Riley Arnold's stream partner, who I believe has a better chance than this last one that we mentioned and the next one that I'm gonna mention. But basically, she's first of all, really excited for this new season. Now, let me just be clear to any listeners, they don't know for sure if they're coming back. Nobody does yet. The dancers, for sure don't know anything yet, and they won't until like literally weeks before the premiere, maybe days sometimes. So when Riley says she's excited, she's just excited. There's been no confirmation as far as her coming back or not. But her dream partner, when asked, is Robert Irwin. Were you host say when Bindi was on?
I wasn't. I wasn't and I thought, who is this and then I realized it's Bindy's brother.
Yes, it's just.
Twenty, in the same age as h So that would be fun for her.
Yeah, and he's newly single, so you know, they love their show mances over there and more definitely her vibe I think than Harry Jousey, But I think that he would be great, actually, I think, you know, that is more realistic. I think that's someone that Dina probably would cast. How about you, Oh, yeah, absolutely.
I mean it's a great storyline, right, The show is so much about the storylines. You can't Yeah, you could take the biggest star ever, but if it's not going to be a good storyline for the fans to follow throughout the season, then it's really not worthwhile. And you want to see the growth and all of that. So when there is a storyline like in this case, because his sister one, because of the family history and all of that, and she'd probably be in the audience, and that's always fun. I think it would be great to see him on the show. And it's always fun to see a couple of a young couple on the on the floors.
Yeah, yeah, it's very Disney friendly. Now. Julianne, though she's not a pro dancer any longer, but she said that she would love to see Kelly Rippa. She would never do it, but I would love to see that too. I mean, there's no way in hell she'd ever do this show.
Well, she couldn't really do her show from New York with the schedule that dancing has the demanding stuf.
Unless they move it to LA, unless they move.
Right right, unless they moved her show to LA. And you know, that's an exhausting schedule. I can't imagine how hard that would be. But you know, if they were to do that, you.
Know, she might have her husband there you go, her Mark is Mark is now the co Yeah, so they both could do it.
That's very true. And it's ABC friendly, which they love. The cross promotion, yes, and then of course Live with Kelly and Mark would get all it would be doing all of the big cross promotion. I could see it happening, you know. The only thing is because we're this many seasons in and obviously the viewership is it would have been different if this was in the early seasons when you know, when I was on with You and it was seasons two nine and it was twenty to thirty million people at night, then I could see Kelly or Kelly and Mark being more inclined to want to do it. But I mean, I don't even know what the viewership is now, but obviously it's it's pale pal.
Yeah, I mean I think TV in general is different. Now let's move to you talking about storyline. Would you do it still?
Would I go back into the show, you know what, because.
You mentioned you did say you would when we first talked.
On the one hand, I would do it in a heartbeat, because I think it would be so much fun, and I would love for my kids to see, you know, experience it, because they were My oldest one was only two and a half when I left the show, and my little one wasn't even born, and so I would love for them to see that. I love the common of dancing and glamour and performance and the makeup and all of that. Here is the physical problem. So I have a blown out disc in my back and I'm not doing surgery because there's no guarantee you would help. So I literally am bone on bone, and I would be concerned about further damaging my body because you know how intense. Obviously the rehearsals are. I'm competitive person with yes you are, shut up, Samatha, You're so competitive, but it's with myself. I would just want to know.
But that's the worst, because you are so I remember you telling me about this, and then I see on Instagram the next morning you're like bye, six seven eight, like leading a freaking workout video.
I you know what I love. I love dance so much. I'm not amazing. I'm I was better in my twenties.
You're amazing. You're so good.
But I yeah, so short answers, I would love to do it. Long answers, I would be afraid that I would do further damage. I'd push myself too hard and then I'd be paying for it for the next fifty years.
Gosh, Okay, you know you're not doing it. Okay, I'm gonna make that decision for you, Okay. Lisa Renna, So she reveals the secret to her marriage to Harry Hamlin. Okay, so they've also been together for quite some time. I guess they've been together. They're heading into thirty two years with twenty seven years of their relationship being married to one another. Now, they were around, you were around when they were in the.
Show season hosting the show season two is when Lisa was on, Yeah, Harry, and then I was on with Harry as well. But yeah, Lisa was on my.
I remember them on tour with us, because when you're on tour, you know, you start to see everyone for who they are, and for the most part, it's fun, you know. But back then celebrities would have their own bus. And I know that Harry and Lisa were both on the tour and they are opposite, completely opposite, but they also have a respect for each other. I believe where they just trust each other. There's that foundation that really hasn't been broken between them. And I'm sure, maybe I'm not going to speak for you, is that is that what the secret is? I guess to a long lasting marriage. She don't want to get advice from me, that's for sure.
No, you know, I think I think it's a combination. And so she came out and she basically said that the secret was really that they are opposites and that they just have that mutual respect, like you just said. And so I think that is you want to feel like there's a secret, sauce, But I think at the end of the day, it's about enjoying each other's company, feeling like the person is your best friend, it's the person you want to call the moment you wake up. If they're not in town, or that the moment something happens in your life, you want that that's the first phone call. But the other part too is I think the opposite thing can be very helpful. You know, my husband and I are very different. You know, we are both outgoing and gregarious, but he's more of a homebody, chill much more even like I'm even keel in terms of emotions, but I'm not even keel in terms of energy.
So the energy I'm like, oh yeah, yeah.
I just woke up my dog. It's like, what is you? What are you doing? Sewing? That can help a lot, you know, just to balance each other out. For yea, being completely the same person right now?
Is that what people should be looking for? Like, should I be looking for that in my next relationship as someone who's like completely opposite or is there? Is it not black and white?
Obviously I's definitely not black and white. I think a couple of other things are really important, And I think that really worked for my husband to decide to get married and be together. Which also, you want to have sort of that same vision for your lifestyle together, right So for instance, we both lived in this literally in the same neighborhood in Los Angeles, So we both knew that, like, you know, you know how it is in LA Like the pocket that you live in is very very much an example of the kind of lifestyle you want.
To live in your morals and values.
Yeah, right, exactly, So you know how we wanted to live our life in physically in terms of location, types of housing, all of that, as well as you know, are we both clean and neat enough to you know? Or we were both really messy? Like are you going to drive each other create every day? Like my kids, Well, one kid who's super messy, like like, she drives me crazy. I cannot I feel bad for her. Freused your college roommate unless that person's equally messy, and then I don't know how you're ever gonna find their clothing.
So where did she get that from?
I don't know. But my niece is also exactly, they're like the same person. So, and my sister's in my blood. But my sister and I are not like that.
We're both got it interesting and I'm assuming your husband is too.
He is. Yeah, it's great, I mean it's great, like we never yeah.
Yeah, So have you ever been with a messy person before that, it's a hot mess. It's just not cute.
No, I don't think. I don't think. I only had one relationship that was like us more than a two month like we're dating kind of thing before I met my husband. Yeah, your's relationship, So I think that's it. Yeah.
Oh wow, Okay, good to know. Let's move on to Emma Slater and talk about how there's a couple of headlines here. Emma basically she files to skip spousal support in Sasha farber divorce settlement, something that I am familiar with unfortunately when it comes to divorce. And also I guess another headline is Emma Slater and Sasha Farber finally divorce as he has awarded two point six million dollar home. But their future on show is uncertain. First of all, that's from the sun. And as much as I am not here to bash anybody, but okay, everyone's future on the show right now is uncertain. That's no testament to them. That doesn't allude to the fact that they're not coming back. Most likely they will be asked back, to be quite honest, But as far as you know, all of this messy drama with the divorce it. Look, this is why I it's very important to first of all clear the air when it comes to anything before getting married, but also to be able to protect yourself and sometimes that may include an actual document that you have to sign. And looks as from what I know personally with Emma, this obviously was discussed. They still have the most love and respect for one another. And I know Emma is new into this real estate business. She's a realtor now officially, and from what I have read and heard, you know, they've invested their money, which is great, into properties and you know Sasha. They decided that Sasha could keep the house, which is a beautiful home, and more power to them. Look, I don't think that I think it was very much amicable when it comes to their split and their breakup. And I just send love to them because this is no fun to obviously have your you know, life on a freaking silver platter for everyone for everyone to read and judge. But obviously they're still in good terms their friends. They're going to be working together again soon and all as well. I'm assuming.
Yeah, I mean, I run of all the dancers on the show, and I will and even on the show when Sasha was on. Yet I run into him all the time, really, and I'm like, yes, it's so. I read the mall at the air one like, like, we always run into each other.
Do you say hi? I?
Oh, yeah, yeah, we say hi. It's so fine, Okay. I wasn't sure that I remember. I was walking past him at the mall. I had my kids with me, and I did sort of a double take because sometimes there have been so many people on, so many dancers and celebrities since I was on, so I sometimes forget, like who is actually on?
Yeah? Yeah, But then he.
Did a double take and then he's like Hi, I'm like hi, and then we talked. So. But here's a question for you. Having gone through obviously a divorce, do you feel that perhaps their choice in doing it this way was also so that they didn't have to divulge a lot of personal information that then would have been on that silver platter you were talking about.
Yes, absolutely, for sure. You mean instead of getting a prenup.
Or instead of going through filing with like I want this and i want this and I'm worth this and I here sure you know, and it's all public record unless you can have it.
It is Yeah, I supposed somehow, but I got I mean, I got a prenup. Like I've been very open with everything in my life, so you know, and and if you want to avoid all of this to be public record, you do. You have to think about that.
Now.
Was it easy at no? Was it uncomfortable? Yes, like everything about it is, But so is talking about money with anybody, right, like life at times can be super uncomfortable. But like, this is a huge responsibility, you know, going into a marriage or any type of long lasting commitment that involves paperwork, you might as well just get down and dirty because hopefully you're having these conversations from the moment you decide to take things seriously from the beginning. But yeah, I think this is a smart way. Whoever advised them to do this was smart because there is no way of learning the details. I guess when it comes to who gets what and whatever, because it is very it's it's crazy. And this is what I learned during my divorce when I had just filed. I remember my publicist saying to me, you know TMZ and US Weekly and all those people are there waiting. They're just waiting. They have one person assigned to the courthouse waiting to see who you know who's getting divorced today. Basically, so as soon as you're filing, you know, and if you're in this business, be ready because it ain't fun, but it is what it is. We choose to be in this entertainment business as well.
So one thing I understand, and this may have changed, but I from what I understand is if you live in California and you've been married for a certain number of years, I can't remember if it's five or ten, yeah, but.
It's I think it's ten. And it's an.
Automatic even split down the middle with all assets unless they're pre marital assets. So a lot of people's prenup already that's what they're trying to get achieved from their prenup, which is expensive and lots of lawyers fees, and yet that's already California state law. So it's interesting, you know. So basically understand, if you're in a relationship and you're getting married, was the state law that you plan to live in for hope?
Oh, that makes a big difference because some most people there were most states, they can care less what happened to you, right, Like if in fidelity was involved. No one gives two shits actually about what happened. But like, and also you have to be careful with like even if someone plants a freaking plant on your property. Let's say, and your husband then moved into your home and it was a freaking plant that he planted, he could fight that. That's his house. It's crazy, it's messy. Okay, one more story before we wrap here. It's already been almost an hour. I can't believe it. We talked more about well, actually we talked more about the most important stuff, which is very I'm very happy. Thank you for sharing all of your information with me and my listeners. Alfonso Roberto Fresh Prince star Alfonso Roberto says show meaning Fresh Prince of bel Air became a sacrifice that ended his acting career. Okay, but look at him now. He's hosting all the top AVC prime time shows from Funniest Home Videos to Dancy Go the Stars, which he does say here in this article actually and more power to him. Like, yeah, and I married an actor, and I understand you know that, Like it is hard to kind of rebrand, but I think in general, whether you're coming from someone something like Dancing with the Stars for so many seasons, or you're coming from like a show like you know, his show Fresh Prince of bel Air. Yes, he is the Carlton. He will always be Carlton, and he'll always dance the Carlton because it's just the way it is. Like, but more power to him. I mean, look at the way he transformed his life. I have a question though, for you, because is it what do you think of actors or anyone any talent, even myself, going from like something that you know, maybe that they're experts in, like for me, for example, ballroom dancing to like hosting or whatever, and do you find that like, oh, we have to earn our stripes or like, how does it? How do you how do you feel about it? Because really, you know, I know, I know, but be honest.
We won't. We won't go too deep into today. I will be my my my kneeds. Your reaction to that question is it's incredibly frustrating.
I'm sure.
I am not an actor or singer, a football player, you know, whatever, so I don't have those other career options. I mean, yes, I started on Broadway. That was fun, that was a summer. Broadway doesn't pay a lot of money the dream, but it was a dream come true doing Chicago, right, So I'm grateful for that. How and I'm sure there are plenty of Broadway actors who have been pounding the pavement for years who see these stunt casting roles from someone's TV show who comes in absolutely so I understand from the other side of like their pain of how much they must have hated that. So what's frustrating is I went to Northwestern University's Dull School of Journalism. I studied how to write, how to edit, how to produce, how to read a tell, a prompter and go off script, how to listen to my producer in my ear. These are skills that I learned and I honed from a for a very long time, from the time I was sixteen cast the first time in a pilot as a TV host. Yeah, so that's my one career, my career. So when the landscape changed and all of a sudden, it mattered how many followers you have, where you where your celebrity comes from, so that you know in fans, So yeah, sure, go ahead and host this show for me. Now, there are plenty who are really good. I mean, I was just watching a clip of you on Jennifer Hudson. You do a phenomenal job. You think your energy is great, but you're also a performer, so impletely that's an easy thing. If there is someone who comes from.
Well, even like Jennifer for example, she can idol, she's great, yes, performing, she's Kelly Clarkson, same thing, right, Drew Barrymore, same thing.
So you know, look, I think if you if I think the great thing is when you have a football player who now is the host of an ESPN or TNT show, fantastic right in their wheelhouse. They're really good. I tell you, I'll tell you I'm going to step into a sports show and do it any not only can I not do it any better, I will be terrible, you know, So I stay. But it is it's frustrating because I have a very narrow ability for jobs to get as a TV host, and it's about stunt casting others who can pull in their followers or their their fans from their others.
Because it never used to be like this, like it used to be hosts our hosts. No dancers are dancers, which ended up being backup dancers unfortunately. But now obviously the trajectory has changed quite a bit, Like so it is, I can't. I mean, this is why I asked, because it can't feel good regardless. And when do you think that that changed exactly? Like was it social media?
Social media is definitely the big change. I mean, had I been up for the Dancing with the Stars hosting job in two thousand and six, was it and we were where we are now with social media? I'm there's not a chance I would have gotten the job, but I was a damn good host.
Absolutely.
Yeah. We didn't got ten hours of live Golden Globes coverage, six hours of live Oscars coverage. I covered every major entertainment awards show live, so I'd had that experience even though I hadn't been in hard news live you know, anchoring a newscast or something like that.
Right, So.
The difference is, yes, that once I left entertainment tonight and still look et and access Hollywood and E news. For the most part, I'm grateful to know that they still want solid journalists.
Though it was veering off for a second there.
But no, I mean they would always I mean even an extra like they would always stunt cast like the latest Bachelorette to come in, but that was more to Pulse, but not as their main hosts, right right, their main anchors and their.
Mos Mario Lopez considered a host.
You know, I think he's done a good job at transitioning his acting career to that, and he's been doing it for a long time. You forget that he was on that like all male version of the View that didn't last very long with like him and Danny Bonaducci and I forget who else. I don't remember the name of it, but it failed. I mean, it was only on for maybe a season or two, Okay, I don't know, but that was I feel like his big switch. And then, you know, and he's been now, he's been doing it for so long, and I don't know, you know, if he just I'm sure he never went to school to figure out how to, you know, ask really good journalistic questions. Would I have him interview, you know, the president of a country? No, but you know, but he does a really good job. Yeah, Billy Bush though, I'd put him in front of anybody. He's fantastic, he's knowledgeable, he's on his feet, he's so good.
I would he's a journalist.
He's a journalist. There's the difference.
Yeah.
For instance, when Aaron Andrews took over for Brooke after I asked, I was so happy to see that that was the replacement choice because she was sports journalist. She was a journalist. She knew that the understanding of how to move a show along, how to ask the right questions. So I thought she, you know, her in that role made a lot of sense.
And Brooke was she a host, She hosted wild on You. That's all I know.
Yeah, and my Brooke had She wasn't a journalist.
Journalist, got it.
Okay, she wasn't a journalist, but she Yeah, but she she came. But Brooke came up as a model slash Yeah, most because of wild on right, So it was still in her wheelhouse, but different. Yeah.
