Mandii B is back with a spooky and hilarious Halloween-themed episode of Selective Ignorance, joined by A-King and Jason “Jah” Lee for an entertaining conversation about Halloween traditions, controversial costumes, candy rankings, and Black representation in horror movies. The crew kicks things off with Halloween jokes and costume ideas [00:00] [00:47], reminiscing about throwback outfits and hats [01:51] before a quick sports detour [04:14]. They explore the origins of Halloween, from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain to the influence of All Saints’ Day and Irish and Scottish immigration on modern American traditions [05:36]. The conversation shifts to spirituality and personal beliefs [08:24], followed by a hilarious detour into mass hysteria [10:16]. Things get heated when the crew declares war on candy corn [12:27], debates the worst Halloween candies [15:58], and ranks their most disliked treats. The laughs continue as they reveal their top five most problematic Halloween costumes of 2026[18:17], including Jeffrey Epstein, Charlie Kirk-inspired costumes, blackface, Diddy in jail with baby oil, and ICE agents [23:09], before debating which costume crosses the line the most [23:54] and why certain politically charged costumes are simply unacceptable.

The conversation turns to horror entertainment as the crew shares recommendations, including Crystal Lake and Carrie [26:31], before ranking their top five Black actors and characters in horror movies[29:25]. From Ice Cube in Anaconda and LL Cool J in Deep Blue Sea to Daniel Kaluuya in Get Out, Jada Pinkett Smith in Scream 2, and Aaliyah in Queen of the Damned, the crew celebrates memorable Black performances that helped shape the horror genre. They also revisit the terrifying legacy of Candyman[35:09], explore the intersection of Black horror and comedy with nods to Bladeand other cult classics [40:21], and take an unexpected detour into alien conspiracy theories [42:15]. The episode wraps with Halloween safety reminders, encouragement to vote, and final thoughts [44:30]. From the worst Halloween candy and most offensive costumes to iconic Black horror films and the history of Halloween, Selective Ignorance delivers a fun, nostalgic, and culturally relevant conversation filled with laughs, debates, and plenty of spooky-season ignorance.
