Mandii B returns with another politically charged episode of Selective Ignorance, joined by A-King, Jason “Jah” Lee, and special guest journalist and political commentator Kevin Ortega-Rojas for an unfiltered conversation about Donald Trump, immigration enforcement, healthcare, and the upcoming midterm elections. After recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness Month [00:00] and emphasizing the importance of voting [00:38], Mandii introduces the panel [02:13] before a Hispanic Heritage Month mix-up [04:46] sparks a discussion about the differences between Latino and Hispanic identity and how racial and ethnic classifications shape public perception [07:59]. The crew examines Trump's controversial Affordable Care Act (ACA) refund checks [12:37], questioning the political messaging behind the payments and how misinformation influences low-information voters [18:34]. The conversation expands into why basic public services and progressive policies are labeled radical [23:48], the influence of wealthy political donors and tech billionaires [27:47], and concerns surrounding Venezuela and U.S. foreign policy [28:30]. They revisit the political backlash against Barack Obama [31:39], challenge misconceptions about democratic socialism [34:25], and examine how culture wars, social media algorithms, and online misinformation shape political narratives [35:36] [37:07] [39:55].

The discussion shifts to Republican immigration messaging [43:42], Trump's attempts to reshape his political image [49:36], and the challenges journalists face covering ongoing ICE operations amid shrinking newsroom resources [53:24]. Kevin provides insight into immigration detention conditions, community resistance, and the reopening of New Jersey's Delaney Hall facility [55:52], while addressing Louisiana's role in deportation operations [58:13] and the Liam Ramos immigration case [58:46]. The crew then reacts to Nicki Minaj encouraging her followers to “vote red” [59:35], questioning her political shift, motivations, and relationship with conservative audiences [01:01:07], before debating whether her comments could influence fans, DJs, and club culture [01:05:26]. Kevin closes with his predictions for the midterm elections, including the possibility of Democrats regaining control of the House while Republicans retain the Senate, and stresses the importance of voter turnout, early voting, and understanding mail-in ballot rules [01:11:02]. The episode wraps with final thoughts and where to follow the guests [01:16:05]. From Trump's healthcare policies and ICE deportations to Nicki Minaj's political endorsement, voter suppression concerns, and the future of American democracy, Selective Ignorance delivers a timely conversation about political accountability, media literacy, and the power of the Black and Latino vote.
