A mass evacuation drill this spring helped Spokane respond to wildfires

View descriptionShare

In Spokane, wildfires destroyed or damaged more than 900 structures last week. Thankfully, no casualties have been reported, but roughly 67,000 people had to evacuate. The city practiced an evacuation this spring, which likely helped the city’s response. Ashley Bosa helped with the evacuation drill. She’s a post-doc researcher at Boise State University’s Resilience Institute. She’s written about how the drill paid off for the nonprofit news organization The Conversation.
