7X-GRAMMY-winning electronic music pioneers The Chemical Brothers, in the game since the early '90s, have returned with their first new single in two years ahead of their scheduled 2023 world tour and Coachella festival appearances.
Back in 2021, The Chemical Brothers shared two fresh tracks -- “The Darkness That You Fear” and "Work Energy Principle" -- the duo’s first new singles since the release of their 2020 Best Dance/Electronic GRAMMY-winning album No Geography the year prior. Now, they're back at it again with the drop of their latest offering, "No Reason."
"We're about to, well at some stage this year, release our tenth studio album," on half of the duo, Ed Simons, tells Audacy host Christy Taylor at Seattle's 107.7 The End. "So, we've definitely been around for a while," he admits.
Looking at the ways electronic music has evolved over the years, Ed feels that "the essence of it hasn't really changed... good dance music, good electronic music can create a kind of magic in the air. A kind of abandonment and wildness, and I think that's the bit that we really tap into."
The duo will once again grace the Coachella stage this year, a return home of sorts as they performed some of the earliest installments of the long-running festival. "Particularly when we play live," Ed says, "there's a big visual aspect to what we're doing. Behind us, we have this huge, massive screen with these images that are conceived in collaboration with friends of ours. So, there is a thing where you're all looking at this and hopefully having different experiences... but this sort of collective thing is happening, and that involves getting completely taken somewhere else by the audio/visual impacts of it."
Simons adds, "We like to play really loud as well, you know."
The future is certainly looking bright for Chemical Brothers fans awaiting a new full-length release. "We're working right now on a new album... it's just kind of experimentation and doing what feels good, what feels exciting. We're currently in the studio, but the plan is some stage this year. There's a long year ahead."
Piggybacking on their upcoming scheduled appearances at Coachella 2023 (April 14 + 21), and 2023 international headlining tour dates, The Chemical Brothers will be making special stops at the Santa Barbara Bowl in California on April 16 and Seattle's WaMu Theatre on April 18. Tickets are available now via Live Nation.
