Samfiru Tumarkin LLP is hearing from IBM employees in Canada who were just laid off as part of another major workforce reduction. According to reports, some individuals have been offered just three months of severance and benefits after meeting with their managers.
This isn’t the first time IBM has cut jobs this year. In 2025 alone, the company eliminated around 8,000 positions globally, many of them in human resources and administrative roles that were replaced by artificial intelligence. IBM has said it’s “modernizing” — using automation to streamline operations and invest more in AI, software, and sales.
But if you’ve been let go, you still have rights. Under Canadian law, non-unionized IBM employees may be owed up to 24 months’ pay as severance — including bonuses, benefits, and other compensation.
