Guest: Freddy Sonakile, Chairperson of North West Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Community Safety and Transport Management

The North West legislature’s portfolio committee on community safety and transport management, chaired by Freddy Sonakile, has voiced serious concerns, following reports that several scholar transport service providers in the province have gone unpaid for more than eight months, despite fulfilling their contractual obligations. In February, the committee had requested the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) to probe the awarding of a new scholar transport tender in the province, advertised last year and finalised in January – it suspects irregularities in the tender process.
