Guest: Bongani Baloyi - ActionSA Gauteng Provincial Chairperson
Tomorrow, ActionSA Gauteng Provincial Chairperson, Bongani Baloyi will hand over the Commission of Inquiry Report into the Hammanskraal water crisis to the Special Investigating Unit of South Africa (SIU) to aide the ongoing investigation into the Rooiwal Treatment Plant tender by the SIU.
The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) deemed the water in Hammanskraal “unfit for human consumption” in 2019, but residents are still living with unsafe water.
Hammanskraal has faced a water crisis since 2005. The community has lived with contaminated water for 17 years running and this led political party ActionSA, to step and hold the Tshwane Municipality accountable. For the municipality and political organisations, this had become a political fight, but for the people of Hammanskraal, it is more simple — water is life
