About 38 000 patients are awaiting for surgery in Gauteng Hospitals. This was revealed in the Gauteng Legislature after provincial Health MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko claimed there were no backlogs in the province. Nkomo-Ralehoko was responding to a legislature question from the DA. The Health MEC has revealed Steve Biko Academic Hospital has the highest number surgery backlogs.
