1. Namibia – Windhoek
Namibia decides 2024 this week
The Namibian Electoral Commission says it is ready for Wednesday’s presidential and national assembly elections. More than a million Namibians have registered to vote, and political parties have wrapped up their campaigns and the ruling party SWAPO faces voters with reason to be nervous.
2. Mozambique- Maputo
Mozambique's opposition leader Venancio Mondlane said he would accept the president's offer of talks after deadly post-election unrest on terms including, they be held virtually and legal proceedings against him are dropped.
President Filipe Nyusi invited Venancio Mondlane to his office in Maputo on November 26 after the killing of dozens of people.
3. Zimbabwe- Harare
A Zimbabwean court has ruled that opposition leader Jameson Timba and 34 people in prison since their arrest at his home more than five months ago were guilty of unlawful gathering.
Timba, an interim leader of the Citizens' Coalition for Change (CCC), was arrested on 16 June with nearly 80 other people in a case criticised as being part of a crackdown on political dissent.
4. European Union- Niger
EU recalls its ambassador from Niger as relations deteriorate
The European Union (EU) has recalled its ambassador from Niamey, Niger's capital, for consultations in Brussels following tensions with the country's transitional authorities regarding EU humanitarian aid for flood victims in the West African nation.
