1.    Qatar- DR Congo- M23 

The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo and M23 rebels are expected to engage in peace talks in Qatar today.

 The country's army said rebels had withdrawn from the mining hub of Walikale as decided during talks in March. 

 

2.    Gabon – Libreville 

As Gabon decides in 72 hours, A Commonwealth Observer Group (COG) has arrived in Libreville, Gabon to prepare for the nation’s first presidential election since the unconstitutional transfer of power in August 2023.

 

3.    Ethiopia- Tigray 

Lt. Gen. Tadesse Werede was named the interim president of the Tigray region on Tuesday, replacing Getachew Reda. 

Before his appointment, Tedese acted as the deputy president of Tigray’s interim administration and head of the cabinet secretariat for peace and security. 

 

4.In our historical archives, it was on this day 9 April 2015 when Cecil John Rhodes Statute was removed in the University of Cape Town. The removal was voted upon by the UCT Council on the 8 April 2015 in consultation with Heritage Western Cape.
