1. Ivory Coast- Mauritania
Mauritanian economist and former minister of finance Sidi Ould Tah has been elected as the new African Development Bank president
Sidi Ould Tah who formerly served as Mauritania's finance minister was elected during a vote yesterday at the bank's annual meeting in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
2. Nigeria – Abuja- United Nations Peacekeeping Operations
Over 200,000 Nigerian Troops, Civilians Served in 41 UN , AU AND ECOWAS Peacekeeping Missions
No fewer than 200,000 Nigerian troops, police, and civilians have served in 41 UN, AU, and ECOWAS missions since 1960, according to UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, Mr. Mohamed M. Malick Fall.
3. DR Congo – North Kivu- Goma
Ex-DRC President Kabila holds talks in M23-held city of Goma
Yesterday former president Joseph Kabila, visited the eastern city of Goma, which had been seized by the Rwanda-backed M23 militia along with several other areas in the resource-rich east of the country earlier this year.
4. Kenya- Nairobi
Kenyan president William Ruto and a friend Simon Kihura has honored and re- membered the revered author Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o
President William Ruto paid tribute to the man he called “the towering giant of Kenyan letters,” saying Ngũgĩ’s courage shaped thoughts around social justice and abuse of political power.
5. In our historical archives, it was on this day 30 May 1961 when South African Prime Minister, H.F. Verwoerd formally announced that South Africa was changing from a Constitutional Monarchy to a Republic.
