Several political parties in Parliament have expressed concern and outrage following the latest spate of mass shootings in parts on the country.  This weekend, 18 people were shot dead at a tavern in Wedela, Carletonville on Gauteng's West Rand, while another 10 people were killed in Lwandle in the Western Cape.  Last week, 12 people, including a pregnant woman, were shot while at a party in KwaMakhutha south of Durban. Bongiwe Zwane spoke to Security Strategist and Retired Interpol Ambassador, Andy Mashaile.

Police say a person of interest has been identified in connection with the murder of a 23-year-old woman in Tembisa. She was shot at around 5:45 this morning while reportedly on her way to work, with her belongings taken. Police are treating the case as murder and robbery and are tracing the person of interest. Gauteng police are investigating a murder and robbery after a 23-year-old woman was shot and killed in Thembisa this morning. The woman was reportedly walking to work in Temong, Mapungubwe Street, at around 5:45 when she was attacked and her belongings stolen. Police say her family has yet to be formally notified. Preliminary investigations have found no link between the murder and recent cases involving women whose bodies were found in Ekurhuleni. No arrests have been made, and police are following up on leads. Gauteng Saps Brigadier Brenda Muridili explains

The SACP is contesting the elections independently for the first time since 1994.
