NSPCA urges protection of animals during fireworks displays

View descriptionShare

As South Africans prepare to welcome the New Year, the NSPCA has sounded the alarm on fireworks and the terror they bring to animals, as well as the severe distress caused to pets and wildlife by loud explosions. The organisation warns that loud bangs trigger extreme distress, causing pets to panic, flee their homes, get lost, or become injured in accidents. Various municipalities allow private fireworks only from 11pm to 1am on New Year's Eve. Lighting them near animals, hospitals, or petrol stations is strictly prohibited and can lead to hefty fines. Elvis Presslin spoke to SPCSA spokesperson, Samantha Stelli
