n World Heritage Fund celebrates 20 years of protecting the continent's irreplaceable heritage

View descriptionShare

As Africa navigates rapid development, climate change, and global uncertainty, the African World Heritage Fund says it will continue its 20-year legacy of ensuring that the continent's irreplaceable heritage is protected for future generations. Founded in the year 2006 by UNESCO and the African Union, the Fund aims to address two historic challenges: the underrepresentation of African sites on the World Heritage List and the limited financial, technical and human capacity to safeguard Africa's Outstanding Universal Value heritage. For more on what the fund has achieved in the first two decades of its existence and what it seeks to achieve, Bongiwe Zwane spoke to African World Heritage Fund Executive Director, Dr Albino Jopela
