Afriforum's Head of Cultural Affairs, Alana Bailey spoke to SABC NEWS during the brief court adjournment in the Pretoria High court where the Information Regulator has brought an urgent application to stop the Basic Education Department from publicly publishing the 2024 matric results like in newspapers. Afriforum has been invited to the case as a friend of the court. Bailey says publishing exam numbers without names balances privacy and public interest, a stance supported by a 2022 court ruling. The presiding judge in the matter has questioned the urgency of the application....

Legal Analyst backs Information Regulator bid to prevent Basic Education from publishing matric results in newspapers

The High Court, in Pretoria, has struck off the roll, the urgent application to prevent the basic education department from publishing matric results. The Information Regulator brought the case before the court in relation to the release of the 2024 matric results on forums including newspapers. The regulator says the publishing of the 2024 matric results which will be released on Monday would violate the learners' right to privacy. In delivering the judgement, the presiding judge had this to say.

Zuma's lawyers have written to the (ANC) seeking his immediate reinstatement as a member of the ANC and further information on his expulsion. In November last year, the ANC's National Disciplinary Committee of Appeal upheld the committee's decision to expel Zuma. The uMkhonto we Sizwe Party leader was expelled for bringing the party into disrepute and establishing and leading a rival political party. MK Party lawyers have given the ANC until the end of January to respond. uMkhonto we Sizwe Party's Floyd Sgivambub recentlY said its members are allowed to have dual membership in exceptional strategic cases.
