Lobby group - AfriForum has stressed the need of publishing matric results in newspapers - citing the benefits for learners in rural areas and villages who have limited internet access. Afriforum's Head of Cultural Affairs, Alana Bailey spoke to SABC NEWS during the brief court adjournment in the Pretoria High court where the Information Regulator has brought an urgent application to stop the Basic Education Department from publicly publishing the 2024 matric results like in newspapers. Afriforum has been invited to the case as a friend of the court. Bailey says publishing exam numbers without names balances privacy and public interest, a stance supported by a 2022 court ruling.
