The advancement of digital technology is having a major, and often detrimental impact on the mental health of internet users. That's according to Clinical Psychologist and author of "A Time to Heal," Dr Rani Samuel. Her comments follow recent reports of a teenager from the UK being gang raped in a virtual reality game. According to reports, the teenager - was using a Virtual Reality headset in an immersive game when her avatar was allegedly assaulted by other avatars representing several men. She is said to have been left distraught following the incident. Prabashini Moodley reports.....

The Hlanganisa Community Fund, an organisation seeking to strengthen social accountability and promote human rights says, very little attention has been paid to the issues affecting women. The organisation has conducted a gender analysis of election manifestos of five political parties namely, the ANC, DA, IFP, FFP and the EFF.  The study reveal that issues such as gender based violence, job creation, access to healthcare, the energy crisis are not addressed in the context of it's greater impact on women.  Prabashini Moodley reports...

Election manifestos inadequately addressing issues effecting women

The class of 2023, has been advised that university is not the only post matric route that one can follow and not gaining access to a prestigious tertiary institution is not all doom and gloom. Last week, Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga announced that the class of 2023 achieved an 82-point nine percent pass rate. 40.9 percent of students achieved a bachelor's pass, 27.2 percent achieved a diploma pass, and 14.8 percent achieved a higher certificate pass. This means, while some will gain entry to University, many have not met the requirements. Career counselor Telishia Thinnasagaren-Chellan says, the possibilities who those leaving school are endless as Prabashini Moodley reports....

Residents of the Soul City informal settlement in Kagiso on Gauteng's West Rand say they are living in fear of illegal miners who they say are living in the community. The residents say they are scared of being murdered as they face danger on an almost daily basis. Four suspected illegal miners were killed during a shooting incident in the settlement at the weekend. Three others were injured and taken to hospital. The deceased are three Lesotho nationals and a Mozambican. Police says the victims were seen being chased and shot at, by a group of armed suspects from a nearby illegal mining site. Prabashini Moodley visited the settlement under police guard and filed this report....
