PODCAST | YOUTH DAY: Is there a leadership vacuum in the youth space?

View descriptionShare
South Africans commemorate Youth Day on Wednesday. This day remembers the Soweto youth uprising of June 16, 1976.

In 1975 protests started in African schools after a directive from the then Bantu Education Department that Afrikaans had to be used on an equal basis with English as a language of instruction in secondary schools.

The Student leaders are lauded for proving leadership and their bravery in confronting the apartheid regime.

In 2005, the #FeesMustFall and #RhodesMustFalls movement made headlines, when university students protested against the cost of tertiary fees and called for decolonised education.

In this special Youth Day podcast, SABC News producer, Lebo Tshangela, speaks to Political analyst, TK Pooe, Youth Lab Pearl Pillay and Fees Must Fall Student Leader, Mcebo Dlamini about where there is a leadership vacuum in the youth space.
