Gauteng Department of Community Safety employee and community leader,Tshepo Modikwe was born with glaucoma, which caused him to be blind.

Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that can cause vision loss and blindness by damaging the optic nerve at the back of your eye.

According to the Continuing Medical Education Journal in South Africa, the prevalence of glaucoma in people older than 40 is between 4.5% and 5.3%.

In white people, 1 in 40 people over the age of 40 years will develop glaucoma, which is 2%.
