In a bid to raise awareness around the importance of recycling and encourage people to take action to reduce waste and protect the environment, the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa (WESSA) have partnered with Sun International to create eco-classrooms and build environmental resilience in 18 schools and communities around the country. The two year relationship themed "Creative Innovation' calls on pupils and communities to think outside the box and find new ways to reduce, reuse and recycle waste in their environment. WESSA hopes the eco-classrooms initiative would help prove that the world can recycle items to create new ideas. WESSA Project Coordinator - Mahlatse Moabelo points to a serious study which shows only 7.5% of South Africans recycle waste resulting in 90% of waste ending up in landfills.
