View descriptionShare
Springbok duo Coenie Oosthuizen and Tendai Mtawarira have returned to the Sharks line-up to face the Reds in Durban on Friday. The pair bring much needed experience to the Durban team, who simply must bounce back after conceding 50 points to a rampant Jaguares side at home last weekend. Jacque Vermeulen is also back to beef up the pack, while in the backs Lukhanyo Am and Makazole Mapimpi are rested, with Cobus Van Wyk, Lwazi Mvovo and Sbu Nkosi coming into the team. Coach Rob Du Preez says the clash against the Reds is chance for his players to rectify their mistakes. Du Preez admitted that his team was hurting after letting in seven tries on home soil. The technical team as well as players have met several times this week to analyse the result and prepare for the Reds. Du Preez says in order to move forward they must take accountability for their shortcomings. Despite the manner of their defeat to the Jaguares, Du Preez says there is no need to push any panic buttons. The Sharks are fifth on the overall Super Rugby table and second in the South African conference, two points behind the Bulls. Du Preez says they must stick to their processes. Meanwhile, Sharks flank, Phillip van der Walt offered no excuse for their performance against the South Americans. It was the Sharks third defeat at home this season. As one of the more experienced players in the team, he urged his team mates to stand up on Easter Friday and put on a winning performance for the fans before they head off on tour to Australasia.
