Roses Radio Episode #4 - De Backman Hoyle

View descriptionShare

This episode we have a chat with De Backman Hoyle. She is a mum and tireless worker in the suicide prevention community. De shares with us her story about the day to day challenges of years of living with her husband Andrews’s mental illness, and how it eventually led to the strain on the family and eventually his death by suicide. De opens up about the 120 minutes between the time she left the home and got the call that Andrew had passed, all the questions that she was left with and how she could have missed the signs. Having no answers or insight to Andrews last thoughts, has forced her to look deep inside to find her own ways to try to explain to herself and at the time their 4 year old daughter, about the loss of Andrew. De talks passionately about how people with a lived experience of suicide can not only help others but themselves by sharing their stories. She talks about the importance of real connections with the people around you and just how crucial it is to spend quality time with those who may be in need of your support and the reality we are all interconnected. De has turned a tragedy into her life’s work and is recognised as a leader in the mental health sector. Tune in and sit back to listen to a truly remarkable woman share her story with us.
