A new battery. A new starter. And the Jeep still doesn't start correctly. Ron begins this hour with a reminder that replacing parts isn't diagnosing a problem. Modern vehicles can be incredibly sensitive to voltage, and sometimes the difference between starting and not starting comes down to a few tenths of a volt. Tell me what's good, and I'll tell you what's bad. Test first. Replace second.

Then the conversation turns to a 2009 Toyota Tacoma approaching 200,000 miles with a possible head-gasket problem, and Ron discusses how to confirm the diagnosis—and whether repairing an older truck can still make more financial sense than replacing it.

A particularly important call involves an 80-year-old Mustang owner experiencing frightening engine surges while stopping. Is it an intermittent vehicle problem—or could the driver unknowingly be pressing the brake and accelerator at the same time?
