For the most part Ipswich has dodged the worst of ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred and the rain that it has brought, but there are still plenty of questions around services resuming, whether or not school is returning and how long the clean-up will take. Ipswich City Mayor Teresa Harding told Peter Psaltis on 4BC's Special Coverage, "Ipswich City Council actually downgraded its alert for people to stay informed, so people are free to go out, go to the shops, you know, go out and about." "We just ask you to stay informed, keep in touch with the Ipswich Disaster Dashboard to look at those warnings." "There is still that chance of the potential flash floods which obviously is not great on roads so just drive really safely and we're really hopeful that ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred's impacts are starting to ease but we'll continue to closely monitor the situation," Ipswich Mayor Harding said.

The Gold Coast has been hit incredible hard by ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred and conditions are still poor. Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate told Peter Psaltis on 4BC's Special Coverage, "If it starts to sunshine late morning, people are going to want to go to the beach and my warning is that there's a lot of hidden danger...Stay away from the foreshore and it'll be much appreciated". We'll come through and we're feeling for Brisbane now, Alfred's moving along that way and so as per usual for everyone out there, listen to messages." "For Gold Coasters, we've got our dashboard Gold Coast, if you just Google that, it gets the latest information," Mayor Tate continued.

The Redlands has been one of the areas hardest hit from ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred, with heavy rain expected to continue. Redlands Mayor Jos Mitchell told Peter Psaltis on 4BC's Special Coverage, "At the moment we've got some ferry services starting to operate again thankfully. So today Sealink has opened up barge services just for emergency services use." "We're asking residents to be very patient, but to be reassured that they [Energex and emergency crews] are doing absolutely everything they can to get everything working again."

Energex crews are working hard to try and restore power to as many Queenslanders as possible and as quickly as possible. Over 315,000 customers were without power earlier today, with the current number below 280,000. Energex Spokesperson Danny Donald told Peter Psaltis on 4BC's Special Coverage, "A lot of our crews out there this morning don't have power too so we emphasises with you." "The girls and the guys out there, they're coming back with smiles on their faces and leaving with smiles on their faces, they just want to get it done too."

The Bureau of Meteorology has confirmed that ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred has made landfall.

Energex has provided the latest update on power in South East Queensland, with many homes still without power. Energex Spokesperson Brett Judge told Jason Matthews, "We did get crews out today, to start doing the assessments and start looking at what needs to get done." "Conditions aren't great, that's part of what we deal with when we're dealing with these weather situations." "And it's challenging, but our, crews are doing what they can do, and hopefully we can get as many customers as we can back on." "We just ask people to be patient and to be safe," Mr Judge continued. 

The South East continues to feel the effects of Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred, with gusty winds and heavy rain. Senior Meterologist, Angus Hines told Sofie Formica, "The wind will begin to ease once the centre of the system is well and truly over land, so that's probably overnight tonight." "So I think between now and midnight, we really could be in for some really gusty conditions through Brisbane and other parts of the South East, but the rain will outlive that." "The rain is expected to stick around not just through until midnight, but through much of the day tomorrow, looking very wet and then even into early next week, could be a wet start to the week before the the whole system and all the associated moisture moves south across the border and into New South Wales," Mr Hines continued. 

Australian Defence Force personnel deployed to assist emergency services with the aftermath of Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred have been injured in a crash in northern NSW. 9News Reporter, James Wilson, joined Sofie Formica to share the latest details on the situation. 

The Queensland Police Service is advising all South East Queensland residents that all emergency alerts issued in the last 48 hours that are relevant to Tropical Cyclone Alfred, have been cancelled. Seven emergency alerts were issued over the course of Thursday and Friday, March 6 and 7, advising residents across Redlands, Moreton, Gold Coast and Brisbane to take shelter from the approaching severe weather system. Now that the system has downgraded, the immediate threat of destructive winds has passed and all alerts relating to taking shelter have been cancelled.

Brisbane City Council and Moreton Bay Council residents who missed the red-top bin collection on Thursday or Friday have been advised to put out their bins to be collected tomorrow.

4:30: Premier David Crisafulli has provided the latest update on Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.  More than 330,000 Queensland homes and businesses have lost power, and 266,000 are still in the dark, as Energex crews work overtime to restore electricity across South East Queensland. Some public transport services will resume tomorrow and essential businesses will slowly reopen.   

4:30PM: Customers across South East Queensland are without power in the wake of Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred, with Energex crews working to restore power. Energex Spokesperson Danny Donald told Sofie Formica, "We've got 268,700 to without supply, of those, 30,000 are in Brisbane, and the lion's share is still down on the Gold Coast at 140,000 plus, 42,000 in Logan. And in my hometown of Redland City, we're looking at 45,000." "On the bright side, today our crews got out there, we got out there a lot earlier than we were anticipating, which was fantastic." "From the cumulative height of this storm where we had about 330,000 affected, we've restored more than 60,000 now, so it's been a very productive day," Mr Donald continued.

Many homes in South East Queensland are without power and NBN, with crews working to restore services. Head of NBN Local in Queensland, Kylie Lindsay, told Peter Psaltis, "At the moment, we know that we've got approximately 188,000 outages, but most of those are related to power." "We've got some teams who are ready to go into the impacted areas, but as we all know, it's still raining out there." "They are still talking about strong wind gusts for, you know, for a little while longer, so I think we'll probably be out there hopefully tomorrow to look at those sort of things," Ms Lindsay continued. 

Qantas and Jetstar are set to recommence domestic and international flights from Brisbane, Gold Coast, Ballina, and Maroochydore from 6am Sunday.   However, subject to weather conditions. 

2:30PM: The Deputy Mayor of Brisbane has outlined how the city is preparing for recovery after Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred. Deputy Mayor of Brisbane, Fiona Cunningham, told Peter Psaltis, "It's sad to say Brisbane is used to floods or we know what can happen when it floods, but a cyclone was a different risk." "Now the risk is though, that flooding again, as we just see that that terrible ex-Alfie move on and bring with him a lot of rain." "Right now, our focus is on making sure that life can return to normal in Brisbane as quickly as possible," Deputy Mayor Cunningham continued. 

2PM: Gold Coast Acting Mayor Donna Gates provided an update on the situation on the Gold Coast.  "The major warning has been reduced to a watch and act," Acting Gold Coast Mayor said.

The Bureau of Meteorology has provided new details regarding the warning zones for Tropical Cyclone Alfred.  The warning zone no longer includes Double Island Point to Noosa in Queensland and Yamba to Ballina in New South Wales.   

City of Gold Coast has issued an emergency warning for Currumbin Valley.  A dangerous flood is impacting the Currumbin Creek catchment.  It is too dangerous to leave and the advice is to get to higher ground where you are. 

The City of Moreton Bay advises for people to TAKE SHELTER NOW from Tropical Cyclone Alfred. Tropical Cyclone Alfred will cross the coast Saturday morning.  People in the City of Moreton Bay must TAKE SHELTER NOW and REMAIN INDOORS. Stay there until the conditions have eased.

Brisbane City Council advises all residents to TAKE SHELTER NOW from Tropical Cyclone Alfred. Tropical Cyclone Alfred is predicted to cross north of Brisbane overnight into the early hours of the morning of the 8th of March 2025.

There has been a new alert from the Bureau of Meteorology regarding the landfall of Tropical Cyclone Alfred.

There has been new advice and alerts from the Bureau of Meteorology regarding the landfall of Tropical Cyclone Alfred. 

As of 8 pm, this is the latest update from the Bureau of Meteorology and the predicted landfall time of Tropical Cyclone Alfred.  BOM Meteorologist Angus Hines joined Jason Matthews to provide the latest update. 

With Tropical Cyclone Alfred set to make landfall tomorrow morning, Energex is confident they will have enough Queensland crews to handle the aftermath.  Energex Spokesperson Brett Judge told Jason Matthewa, "Depending on how our people fare during this, there are crews that respond on the Gold Coast, live on the Gold Coast, crews that respond in the suburbs of Brisbane, they live in Brisbane. Same with the Sunshine Coast." "So we've got about 1500 that we can call upon, we hope." "But you know family comes first, and their safety comes first. So, our people will be looking after their own first before they go out to look after others," Mr Judge continued. 

An emergency alert has been issued for coastal areas from Broadbeach to Jacobs Well and South Stradbroke Island.  Tropical Cyclone Alfred impacts are expected overnight and advice has been to take shelter.  Acting Gold Coast Mayor, Donna Gates, told Jason Matthews, "We always knew this would happen if the cyclone crossed north of our city." "Because we would receive the greatest southerly impact of anyone in the local government area." "So we've been preparing for it, we've known it's coming, and it's happening now," Acting Mayor Gates continued.

The latest track map from the Bureau of Meteorology shows that Tropical Cyclone Alfred is estimated to make landfall at 7am on Saturday. 

Residents of Lismore have received evacuation orders ahead of Tropical Cyclone Alfred.  Mayor of Lismore, Steve Krieg, told Jason Matthews, "It's the all too familiar bloody tale that we're going through, sadly." "Evacuation orders out of our CBD and residents in north and south Lismore." "We don't want to be put in the position that we were in 2022, where we had to rescue people in the middle of the night." "It's a conservative approach, but I think it's the right one, I'm one of the residents that has been evacuated today, so, it's a little deflating, to be honest with you," Mayor Krieg continued.
