A number of European education systems are pulling back from the heavy use of laptops, tablets and smartphones in classrooms, after years of aggressively embracing digital learning. The shift is particularly visible in Sweden and Finland, where schools are bringing printed textbooks, handwriting and teacher-led lessons back into the classroom. One reason is concern about declining literacy and concentration. Some Swedish teachers report that struggling pupils themselves asked for physical books because they found screens distracting. Finland has similarly begun reconsidering its decade-long push towards laptops and digital learning.
