Jelly Roll had a front-row seat to Country music’s most epic beer pong battle and he’s sharing every detail.
During a recent appearance on the Friday Night Takeover with Audacy’s Rob + Holly, Jelly detailed his “iconic,” ACM afterparty experience, which involved beer pong with Jason Aldean, Kane Brown, Post Malone and Dan + Shay’s Shay Mooney.
“It was iconic,” the 39-year old said of the after-party. “We found a dive bar like seven minutes outside of town and we played beer pong until the sun rose. I don’t know when everybody else left, but I left at like, 4 in the morning and it was still raging.”
According to Jelly, things went from friendly competition at the award show to raging competitive at the after party, especially when beer pong aficionados Kane Brown and Post Malone got to playin’.
“I’m the opposite of competitive, but I had Kane Brown as a partner and that was my strategy because Kane don’t lose,” Jelly laughed, admitting for the first time he’d never played beer pong before that night. “That dude is like, insanely competitive, so when Kane was like, ‘I’ll take you on my team’ I was like, ‘Score!’”
Things apparently got heated when Kane put $10,000 on the line and Posty demanded a beer-pong-regulated table. “Let me tell you how serious Post and them take Beer Pong,” Jelly laughed. “They had an argument over the table because it was a long, tall table. Post made them go get a regulation table.”
“Kane and Post were like juggernauts fighting, it was like two professional beer pong players,” he shared. “I felt like I was watching Forrest Gump play beer pong.”
Finding a new love for beer pong and watching the competition go down between fellow Country pals was the icing on a great night for the Tennessee native, who took home an ACM for Music Event of the Year win for “Save Me” featuring Lainey Wilson.
When asked where he plans on displaying the trophy, Jelly simply replied he wasn’t to trick out his mom’s crib. “I think I’ve now won enough — which is crazy to say — that I’m probably going to send a couple to my Mama’s new house. I’ll probably just fill her crib up, to be honest. Before I make a display of it in my house, I would treat her.”
Realistically, Jelly could fill up her house pretty quickly as he’s already won a number of awards with his debut album and more are bound to come with his next project, which is already in the works.
Revealing he’s “easily” written more than 100 songs for the next project, Jelly promises fans they can expect a “Morgan Wallen length” project, referring to the hit-maker’s last two projects which have had 30+ song track lists.
“I’m gonna put out a lot of music this year,” he shared. “Morgan Wallen has inspired me. [His songs] are great and they all live and grow and it just inspired me. I wanted to do something tight with Whitsitt Chapel, but I’m doing something totally different with the next album.”
As the buzz starts to grow around the next era of Jelly Roll music, he says he doesn’t quite have the title yet… or maybe he does. “I’ve got a few titles in my phone and none of them are screaming,” he shared. “There’s one of them that’s obvious and I hate it because it’s obvious… it’s probably the way it’ll go just because of how it’s workin’.”
