We're back live this Monday, but in the meantime...
Mother Monster herself Lady Gaga opened up to us about her new album Mayhem, describing it as a collection of dark dreams expressed through celebration, with Abracadabra embodying resilience on the dancefloor. She shared how the music video, choreographed by Paris Goebel, represents the fight of life and was inspired by the strength and joy of the LGBTQ+ community. Gaga expressed deep gratitude to her queer fans, acknowledging their role in shaping her career and emphasizing the importance of standing together. Beyond music, Gaga revealed she’s prioritizing love, family, and creative freedom, even dreaming of writing her own Broadway show in the future. And in the chat, Gaga hints at an Aussie tour.
Ricky late Chinger, It's so nice to meet you. It's so lovely to meet you.
You are my absolute everything and such an inspiration. So hello, good morning, good evening, wherever you are.
Hi.
That is so sweet. Thank you so much. I'm so happy to talk to you and you you are inspiring me to today with all that like joy. Thank you so much for being so nice to me.
It must be so nice. Every when you talk to you. Is so excited to talk to you.
That's beautiful. It's like it's like such a gift, you know, Like I love making music and making people happy, and it's just like it's a community, you know.
And this is how important you want to ask. We've come to you from all corners of the country. So I'm in Sydney, Joel the person who's just fangirling like crazy.
The whole time. I apologize.
And Ricky doesn't normally wear a dressing gown, but she's on the Gold Coast at like five in the morning.
I had a gig last night. I slept in my makeup. I'm talking to Lady Gaga. I have to commit to the look. My wavens are on the floor.
Perfect where they belong.
Abrika Dabra. Oh my gosh, it is such a banger. It is so great. Are you excited to get out onto stage and start performing it forth and seeing everyone just go mental in the dance floor just turning it out?
Yes, I'm super excited, and I have lots of like performances and I'm planning and just been like really focused on bringing all the dreams of the album to life, because the album is like a series of all these like dark dreams that are like kind of expressed in celebration. So you know, I'm excited. I mean, that song is even though it's really dark and heavy and it's a banger, it's also about resilience. I think sometimes that can be really fun to kind of like furiously dance to get out.
And is there a more perfect album title for twenty twenty five, like mayhem? Just some sums it up already we hear the whole record yet, but you've summed it up.
Congratulations, Thank you, thank you so much. Well, I don't know if I feel good about that foresight, but here we are.
Now you have an amazing aussy dancer, Michael Domeski partnering you in the Abrika Debro music video, which also can I just tell you, I know you know this, That video is one of the greatest videos I've seen ever the Corey, everything you're doing in that music video is amazing and I'm always so interested. It's such a huge part of your artistic expression. And nobody does music videos like Lady Gaga. How far in advance are you planning on dreaming up and working on these visuals and music videos for your singles and albums and live shows.
Well, the vision for the video and a lot of us started in the studio when I was writing the song and put us in the song.
Like it was.
This vision of the you know this lady in red peering over the nightclub and saying, like you can You're gonna either have like the great night of your life and fall in love where it's going to be the end of you, like can you handle it? And yeah, exactly, it's it's it's it's basically about resilience the song. And then I've been collaborating with the amazing Periscobal, who I love so so much. She is amazing and so talented, and you know her and I developed the idea of the video even further. Together She did all the choreography. We worked on life the creative together as well, and we you know, we wanted to make something that was about like, you know, the fight of life, you know, like the way that like when when the world can become chaotic, we all have to like wake up and dance our way through it and like and like, and I often ask myself, like do you have what it takes? And I think part of what inspired me in this video as well is like the grace, joy, love and freedom of the LGBT plus community and their resilience and wanting the video to represent like love leading the way and our ability to be strong even when we're faced with adversity, and even if if adversity is like something we're facing within ourselves, which is why I'm like facing off with myself in the video.
Angel I've said to people for years, all I want to do is walk past Lady Gaga in the street and just take up five seconds of her time and say thank you, Thank you for for people that feel othered and and the the what you have done for us, truly, the advocacy. I'm struggling to keep my words together, the advocacy you have shown us it knows no bounds and and I just cannot thank you enough for the people you have touched, the lives you have saved.
Truly, Lady Gaga, thank you so very much. You are my You are truly my everything.
Thank you you you are all my everything. I think you know the world the world deserves to hear that the lgbt Q plus community has led the way in art for thousands of years. And you know, it's a it's something that meant to be celebrated. The queer community deserves to be celebrated. And I wouldn't be where I am without the queer community. I was like the weird girl in pop music that the queer community lifted up. And you know that that will always that will always mean the world to me and we and you know, we all we all have to have each other's backs.
We will follow you into battle. We will do.
That's a battle. I'll be terrified to say.
Ye.
Can I ask you a quick question even if it's a lie, though? Can you just tease your Australian fans when we might be able to say? Because I know you performing at cut Scheller and you'll be doing S N L and lots of things in the laid up to these massive album on March seven? But can you even just tease us that you might be coming down here at some stage to say us all in the flesh.
I all I can say is that I miss the heck out of my assine fans, So sorry, like I really do, and it would we need to be reunited.
That's what do we really do?
And can I just ask, I know you, I know you are a thee. I mean I've seen every single performance you've ever done. Your you are, I know you're a Broadway a person as well. Is there a during Broadway role that one day we might see Lady Gaga winning a Tony four?
You know what?
I honestly think that, like, when I think about Broadway, I think I would just love to write a show. Like I think that that would like be the most fun. It's like to create like an entire show, write the script, do all the music. I mean, I'm sort of in that era of my life where like I'm thirty eight years old now, I've been in the music industry for over twenty years, and I think, like I'm feeling empowered by this idea that you can you can be you can be the artist of your own life, and you know, just making things from scratch feels really really fun. And so yeah, I've been I've been like writing a lot, and I've been rehearsing a lot. Actually, like I I really love practicing what I do because I just always want to be at my best for my fans, and.
I feel like there's there must always be like so many things on the horizon that you know about, whether it's the tour and all of these live performances and the singles and the music videos. There's so much in the pipelines and you're working so far ahead. Do you get a chance to to stop and chill and switch off and unplug or you just always plugged in?
Actually, yes, I know, I really appreciate you asking that. I actually think the joy of my life now is that I really feel like I've become like a whole person and that my whole life doesn't revolve around only my career anymore. You know, I have an amazing relationship with my fiance. We also work together, but we make a lot of time to just be you know, a family with our dogs, and I you know, my family is so important to me and my friendships are important to me. You know it's I love making music, but part of what inspires the art making process is life. And you know it's like you have to life and because like that, life is what gives you inspiration.
We know you so type at time that. Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to spend it with us. Mayhem. The album is out today and as you said, I'll hold you to it, see you out here soon.
Thank you so much, guys, Hope, thank.
You much, thank you, thank you, thank you for everything you do. Thank you stopped, thank you bye. I love you, Thank you so much.
Now, Joel, just stay with me, Stay with me, breathe.
How are you feeling?
Is that okay?
How are you feeling?
I've got the dryest mouth. I've got the dryest mouth.
We don't need to go into that kind of detail, but how you feel so.
Much more eloquent than I thought by doubling the mess beforehand? No, it was you. You said everything you needed and wanted to say, and you said it perfectly and beautifully and without a speeding fun I'm so proud of you.
Well done. I know she is sensational. Life complete done. Tik tik tik.
The only thing is the only thing is I did not hit record.
So that is let's do it again.
I'll happily do it again. All right, I'm going back to sleep.
Great bye, guys, not mad
