Big headlines, big debates, and big celebrations filled this episode of The Rickey Smiley Morning Show. The crew reacted to reports that R. Kelly has formally requested clemency from President Trump, seeking to reduce his decades-long prison sentence while citing health concerns and alleged prosecutorial overreach. They also discussed the backlash facing A$AP Rocky after bringing his infant daughter to Jay-Z’s Yankee Stadium concert, where some fans criticized the noisy environment while others noted the child was wearing hearing protection. Meanwhile, sports fans had plenty to celebrate as the New York Knicks were named Best Team at the 2026 ESPYS following their championship season, with Jalen Brunson also taking home multiple individual honors.

The show also welcomed Cupid, who reflected on the 20th anniversary of the iconic "Cupid Shuffle,” sharing stories about the song’s unexpected rise from a regional dance hit to a worldwide phenomenon and discussing his upcoming documentary and new music. The episode blended entertainment news, sports, cultural commentary, and nostalgia, delivering the humor, perspective, and lively discussion listeners have come to expect from the RSMS crew
