High protein diets have become very popular for those hoping to bulk up and for those hoping to shed pounds. However, too much dietary protein could trigger a molecular mechanism that could increase the risk of atherosclerosis. The research, conducted by scientists at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, was published this week in the journal Nature Metabolism. Dr. Babak Razani, MD, PhD, a cardiologist at Pitt was a guest on the Rick Dayton Show to talk about the research -- and looking ahead to what work still needs to be done as it relates to protein sources (plant vs. animal proteins.)
