The month of May has been set aside to commemorate or rather make awareness about amongst others, Anti-tobacco awareness campaign.
Although many are aware of the health dangers associated with smoking, millions of South Africans still light up. This is unfortunate because smoking puts one at risk of developing illnesses such as lung cancer, chronic lung diseases and heart disease.
It is important to take into consideration that Covid-19 still does exist, and it needs to be emphasised enough when making awareness about Anti-tobacco awareness campaign. Smokers might find themselves at greater risks of becoming fatalities to Covid-19 because the virus primarily targets lung epithelial cells, causing viral pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), especially in elderly patients.
