Patti Luttrell was starting a great career as a pediatric nurse when she overheard a family in the hospital who had just lost their young daughter to cancer. In the midst of their heart-wrenching grief, they were also burdened by not having the gas money to make the two-hour drive back to their home.
She started thinking about all the ways families whose children were dealing with cancer struggled with financial needs. Then in 2005, using proceeds from a garage sale and her daughter Jenny’s vision to host a fashion show, the Children’s Cancer Network started in earnest.
Today, CCN is a $1.4 million philanthropic organization benefiting Arizona cancer families on a daily basis. The nonprofit provides everything from gas and grocery cards to wigs, health and wellness activities, adopt-a-family programs, college scholarships, networking opportunities, support programs, and more.
