Dawn Trapp holds a degree in travel and tourism, but her life-work has taken her on a “journey” of a different kind.

When she first started as a volunteer with Camp Civitan, it was a 15-acre wheelchair accessible facility in Williams, AZ that offered programs for children and adults with developmental disabilities, operating on a budget of $250,000 year.

In 2001 she became the first executive director of the Civitan Foundation, and today the organization has a budget of $7 million that provides statewide programs focusing on education, nutrition and health, life skills, socialization, job training employment, and respite/habilitation/attendant care services that work with more than 300 members each and every day.

The Rescuers radio show provides an opportunity to spotlight people who are working behind the scenes to make this world a better place. These people serve as inspiration and idea starters to encourage others to find creative ways to impact their community, their city, and the world.

Host Art Brooks has spent his career in broadcasting, both as on-air talent and in representing the industry as president and CEO of the Arizona Broadcasters Association for nearly 30 years. He was the driving force behind an Emmy-winning series of documentaries on drug abuse that combined a phone bank of 100 seasoned counselors and history-making "roadblock," as every TV station in Arizona and many radio stations broadcast the groundbreaking show on the same day at the same time. He also was instrumental in starting AZ AMBER Alert (one of two states in the nation where broadcasters initiated the program), helped form the Native American Broadcast Institute at Northern Arizona University and consulted with broadcasters in Bulgaria to help build commercial radio as the country was coming out of communism.

Rescuers airs 5:30-6 p.m. AZ time Thursdays on KPXQ-AM Faith Talk 1360, beginning May 7, 2020. Based in Phoenix, it is available internationally online. He helps leaders who are weary in body and soul, offering spiritual resources with a health dose of encouragement, refreshments … and hope.

Richard speaks from experience, having weathered all those challenges himself. He’s a listener and encourager, working locally and globally. He has been to Belarus, Georgia, Armenia and Uzbekistan working with leaders and on projects including

refugee assistance, providing wells and water filter systems, and writing curricula to train and prepare leaders. He has found a unique niche to make this world a better place.

At age 6, Zach Vogel’s identity was rooted in baseball. He was already praying that God would make him a major league ball player. Then four years later when he collapsed for the second time during a game, he was diagnosed with Long QT Syndrome, a heart signaling disorder characterized by arrhythmia that caused him to pass out. It was more serious than that, though. It meant he had an increased risk of sudden death.

At 10, it appeared Zach’s dreams were over before they began. What followed were years of depression.

Hear about his amazing recovery, and how it makes him the perfect person to head Identity Sports, a nonprofit that provides events like Tales from the Tour and Tales from the Dugout as a platform for athletes to share their faith.
