On 19 February 1942 war came to Australia with the Bombing of Darwin. The fear and reality of war on our doorstep was felt for the next three years, until Allied troops began to gain momentum and march towards victory with the Battle of Iwo Jima, which also started on 19 February three years later in 1945.
