Chris Frame - Cruise History
The Evolution of the Passenger Ship book is the new book.
The book is our 17th and a long term project that was inspired by a popular lecture I present on the cruise ships and at maritime museums.
1/ the origins of the passenger ship has ancient historical connections
2/ sail ruled the waves for centuries and it was abysmal for travelers.
3/ steam brought great promise in the 1830s
4/ Regular steam services changes everything - reliability, safety etc.
5/ shipping learns from maritime disasters. Eg: titanic, Lusitania.
6/ jet age and containers kills passenger ships as they were - but cruising takes things to a new era!
