Priesthood and Authority in Christian Tradition

View descriptionShare

The Jewish faith, Catholicism, the Orthodox faith, nearly all Protestant denominations, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, all believe priesthood authority is necessary for the most sacred rituals and ordinances.  Jews believe the authority of their priests came from YHWH.  Catholics, Orthodox and Latter-day Saints all trace their authority from the event described in Matthew 16:19, from Jesus to Peter, then to those in authority in their faiths.  Protestants see the need for priesthood, but believe 1 Peter 2:9 somehow says all Protestant believers automatically have priesthood.  But is that what 1 Peter 2:9 implies?
