The Doctrine and Covenants was first published in 1835 as successor to the Book of Commandments.  The first title of the book "Doctrine and Covenants of the Church of the Latter Day Saints: Carefully Selected from the Revelations of God".  In this episode of Religion Today, host Martin Tanner explains the little known story of who selected the revelations included in the D&C and why.  Martin Tanner also explains how the D&C originally contained two parts, lectures describing basic church doctrine, followed by a selection of revelations containing covenants for Church members, hence the title "Doctrine and Covenants".
