Most people are aware of the origins of the Book of Mormon - it was translated from golden plates by Joseph Smith.  Few are aware of how the LDS scripture, Doctrine & Covenants (D&C) came to be.  Revelations and other items included were selected by a committee consisting of Joseph Smith, Oliver Cowdery, Sidney Rigdon and Frederick G. Williams.  The "Doctrine" portion was the "Lectures on Faith" no longer in the D&C.  The "Covenants" portion has been changed over time.  The origin and history of the D&C is fascinating and remarkable.
