Colts/Cardinals Joint Practices Recap with Matt Verderame and Kevin Bowen!

View descriptionShare

(00:00-26:29) – Query & Company opens on a Friday with Jake Query in St. Louis and James Boyd filling in for Jimmy Cook in Indianapolis with producer Eddie Garrison discussing the joint practices for the Indianapolis Colts and Arizona Cardinals. Jake asks James to illuminate on what he saw from the Colts yesterday in the rain and then in the sun splashed practice on Wednesday. Also, they touch on the Pacers schedule being released yesterday.

(26:29-45:51) – Sports Illustrated’s Matt Verderame joins Jake Query & James Boyd on Query & Company to evaluate what he saw in Wednesday’s practice between the Colts and the Cardinals, shares his infatuation with Shane Steichen’s ability to milk the best out of what he’s given offensively, states that Laiatu Latu is his pick to win defensive rookie of the year because of what he saw in college and so far in practices, and expands on Adonai Mitchell being the rookie that impressed him the most through his seven training camp visits that he’s made.

(45:51-46:59) – The first hour of the program concludes with Jake and James previewing hour number two!

(46:59-1:14:36) – Jake Query and James Boyd begin hour number two by discussing why they believe Chris Ballard didn’t go out and add a veteran safety despite the lack of proven success from the current group and having a real discussion about Anthony Richardson. They get into a debate on if they believe he can be a great quarterback in the NFL to be put in the same conversation as Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, and others. Jake and James try to figure out which quarterback Anthony Richardson is between being able to elevate the talent around him or if he needs talent around him to succeed.

(1:14:36-1:29:17) – Jake and James continue their conversation from the end of the previous segment about paying quarterbacks even though they may not warrant being in the same conversation contractually as others. They transition to Chris Ballard not spending money in the secondary with a ton of players that are unproven both at corner and safety besides Kenny Moore II.

(1:29:17-1:34:49) – Hour number two concludes with asking James and Eddie what they are doing this weekend. It leads to Jake sharing his rules with helping friends and family move because Eddie must help his brother and sister move in this weekend.

(1:34:49-2:03:30) – Kevin Bowen from the Wake-Up Call with KB & Andy makes his weekly appearance on Query & Company with Jake Query and James Boyd to assess how the Colts offense looked in the two joint practices against the Arizona Cardinals. KB states that he hasn’t loved what he has seen from Blake Freeland in training camp, shares if he would wear a guardian cap if he was playing in the NFL, and if he is concerned that there hasn’t been much of an update on when Raekwon Davis or Ashton Dulin will return.

(2:03:30-2:12:42) – As Jake does on every Friday, he shares a really cool story for Good for the Heart Friday sponsored by Franciscan Health!

(2:12:42-2:20:29) – Today’s show ends with Jake sharing how many tickets he was able to provide to United Way for kids to attend tomorrow’s preseason game between the Colts and Cardinals. James also shares what he will be looking out for in tomorrow’s preseason game.
