Farmers protest is not a phenomenon limited to India. Recently, farmers all across Europe have been protesting for various reasons? What are the proximate and structural reasons behind these protests? Are there any similarities between the protests in India and Europe? 

P.S: We recorded this episode before the recent farmer’s protest in India began. There is already widespread coverage on this topic. We thought that this discussion can bring a slightly different POV on the topic.

About the Guest:

Rahul Verma is Fellow at the Centre for Policy Research, New Delhi, and Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science, Ashoka University, Sonipat. He has a PhD in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley. He is a regular columnist for various news platforms and has published papers in many academic journals. His research interests include voting behaviour, party politics, and political representation. His book co-authored with Pradeep Chhibber, Ideology and Identity: The Changing Party Systems of India, develops a new approach to defining the contours of what constitutes an ideology in multi-ethnic countries such as India. He recently co-edited a volume with Sudha Pai & Shyam Babu - Dalits in the New Millennium.
