Food Security

View descriptionShare

Global food insecurity reaches unprecedented levels in many parts of the world. Also, the conflict, pandemic, disrupted supply chains, and other factors contributing to its increase and making hunger more common! So how are MENA nations moving to bolster food security? And what are the factors behind food crises?

In this episode, Dr. Maha Al-Zu’bi answers these questions and more about food security.

Maha Al-Zu’bi has a PhD from the University of Calgary in Environmental Design. She has over fifteen years of experience in planning, designing, and managing public and internationally funded portfolios, programs and projects in various development sectors, including water, energy, agriculture, and environment. She has more than five years of experience in managing academic/research initiatives.
Dr. Al-Zu'bi conducted most of her research in the Middle East, focusing on the Arab region, to propose local climate policy and principles for the governance of climate change adaptation and mitigation. She has published in peer-reviewed journals related to climate change governance, green roof policy, climate security, and the energy-water-food nexus. Further, she contributed to policy papers such as Jordan’s Green Growth and Climate Change frameworks and the Arab Water Development Report 7.
In addition, she contributed to the SDGs research platform -by publishing a short book examining SDG11- and localizing SDGs by building the capacity and advising up to 10 startups and young entrepreneurs who invented green solutions.
Currently, she is a Researcher-Agriculture Water Solutions at the International Water Management Institute. She conducts evidence-based research inspired by the post-2015 development frameworks and co-leading a CGIAR  regional integrated initiative, “From Fragility to Resilience”, for the CWANA region.
